The British cyclist, Geraint Thomas, won the Paris-Nice race for the first time, at the end of the 7th and final stage, which was won by the Belgian Tim Wellens (Lotto).

In the final standings of this 74th edition, Thomas finished 4 seconds ahead of the Spaniard Alberto Contador, who challenged him until the end.

The Welshman, aged 29, secured his fourth victory for Team Sky in five editions of the “race to the sun.”

The suspense was palpable during the final stage of Paris-Nice. Geraint Thomas started with a 15-second lead over his closest rival. At the finish line, the Welshman defended his position by 4 seconds and delivered Team Sky its fourth victory in Nice in five years.

This is also the third closest title race in the event’s history, following those won by Rebellin in 2008 (3 seconds ahead of Nocentini) and Poulidor in 1973 (4 seconds ahead of Zoetemelk).

The green jersey remains on the shoulders of Michael Matthews for the second consecutive year, while the polka dot jersey is won by the Canadian Antoine Duchesne.
