Paris-Nice: the last stage for Magnus Sheffield, the yellow jersey for Mattéo Jorgenson

Latest News

The finale of the 2025 edition of Paris-Nice crowned the American Mattéo Jorgenson for the second consecutive time. The last stage was won by Magnus Sheffield.

Finally, the sun was part of the event for this last stage of the 83rd edition of Paris-Nice. A short but hilly stage of 120 km with more than 2,700 meters of elevation gain. The peloton crossed the Col de la Porte before heading into the Côte de Peille. It was at this point that the favorites decided to make their moves 3 km from the summit on the steepest gradients.

Left alone from the first slopes, Mattéo Jorgenson (Visma Lise a Bike) had to control the situation when Thymen Arensman (INEOS Grenadiers) and Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe), respectively third and second overall, attempted to break away. This was a vain endeavor for these two men, unlike Aleksandr Vlasov and Félix Gall, two outsiders who had suffered the difficult weather conditions of the 4th stage at La Loge des Gardes. They eventually caught up with Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek), of course! The green jersey holder had broken away early in the stage to score points and defend his title as the best sprinter.

At the top of the Côte de Peille, a makeshift peloton gathered with about twenty riders, still led by the race leader. And as often happens, the best defense is a good offense! On Col d’Eze, Mattéo Jorgenson took advantage of a momentary lapse in attention from his general classification pursuers to break away and ride at his own pace. Meanwhile, Mads Pedersen secured his green jersey which he went to claim with flair!

Magnus Sheffield’s Performance

Launched in a counter-attack a bit earlier on the Côte de Peille to serve as a relay for his leader Thymen Arensman, the American from INEOS, Magnus Sheffield eventually decided to continue his effort. A winning bet since neither Félix Gall nor Mattéo Jorgenson could catch up with him. Despite a slight scare on the very technical descent of the Col des Quatres Chemins, it was indeed Magnus Sheffield who won on the Promenade des Anglais ahead of Mattéo Jorgenson.

The latter thus retains his title in the race to the sun, with a 1’15” lead over Florian Lipowitz, who finishes with the white jersey for the best young rider, and Thymen Arensman. On the French side, there’s a notable performance by Clément Champoussin, who climbed to 7th place overall. Congratulations to Thomas Gachignard, who finished as the best climber.
