The final stage of the 2024 Paris-Nice saw the top favorites face off once again. In this encounter, it was Remco Evenepoel who raised his arms on the Promenade des Anglais. The yellow jersey goes to the American Matteo Jorgenson.
This 82nd edition of the Race to the Sun has delivered its verdict. After seven stages during which the favorites closely watched each other, this final day of racing finally offered a spectacular show. And the one who paid the price was the leader of the general classification, Brandon McNulty. Overwhelmed by the repeated attacks from the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, the yellow jersey holder ultimately faltered 44 km from the finish line on the Peille ascent.
Behind him, a group of three riders made a difference under the impetus of the Belgian champion. Alongside him was the previous day’s winner, Alexandr Vlasov, who took on the role of leader in his team following Primoz Roglicโs failure. However, the biggest thorn in the Belgian’s side was named Matteo Jorgenson. The best young rider of this Paris-Nice, second in the overall standings, showed great strength in the wheels. With a thirty-second gap between these two men, the cooperation remained amicable until the finish.
Remco Evenepoel consoled himself with the stage victory, the best climber classification, which he seized from the Frenchman Mathieu Burgaudeau, as well as the green jersey.
Matteo Jorgenson (22 years old) becomes the 4th American to win Paris-Nice ahead of Remco Evenepoel and Brandon McNulty, who managed to secure third place overall against Alexandr Vlasov.
