On Tuesday at noon, the official launch will take place at the Maison du Sport Franรงais, headquarters of the CNSOF, and then on the Left Bank of the Seine.
“We will announce Paris’s bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games in two stages: on June 23 and July 14,” Bernard Lapasset, president of the pre-application committee and the Committee for International French Sport (CSFI), had already explained.
The announcement of the candidacy will be followed by a “friendly gathering” with young Parisians on the Left Bank of the Seine.
Many Olympic and Paralympic champions will be present (Marie-Jo Pรฉrec, Laura Flessel, Laure Manaudou, Marie-Amรฉlie Le Fur, Renaud Lavillenie, Teddy Riner, Luc Abalo, Michaรซl Jรฉrรฉmiasz, etc.).
Those who cannot be there tomorrow will show their support via videos or messages posted on social media.
The tandem of Tony Estanguet and Bernard Lapasset will steer Paris’s bid.
Tony Estanguet is a multi-titled Olympic champion and has just joined the IOC, bringing his youthfulness. Bernard Lapasset has proven himself in rugby and is recognized by the IOC. This duo seems solid to me.
A third player should be added: Guy Drut, who is an IOC member and has expertise to offer. These three must come to an agreement, and everyone should work behind them.
The slogan “I Want the Games” should accompany the campaign, and its financing plan (around 60 million euros) is in the pipeline. The project aims to be modest (less than 6 billion euros), utilizing as many existing or planned infrastructures as possible (Stade de France, Bercy, Arena 92) along with essential Parisian sites (Champs de Mars, Grand Palais, etc.) and will benefit from the Grand Paris transport network, already planned.
