Stuck between the A8 highway, the railway line, and the hill, the Liserons neighborhood does not reflect the prestige typically associated with Nice. Car noise, lack of greenery, pollution – the residents can no longer stand this neighborhood. However, the area is set to undergo significant changes in the coming years. Urban redevelopment has already started with the opening of a new parking lot.
“*What I can do right away, I am doing now*”, announced Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, at the inauguration of the new Liserons parking lot. From June 2nd to August 1st, the former wasteland has been completely redeveloped to improve the neighborhood’s image. 330,000 euros have been invested, including the creation of a 63-space parking lot, two of which are designated for people with reduced mobility, a 330 mยฒ sidewalk, a lighting network, a secured pathway for schoolchildren, as well as two underground containers for waste sorting. The bus stop has also been restructured: elevation of the platform for disabled access and extension of the school bus stop.
“*This neighborhood is often left abandoned*”
“This parking lot is a very good choice, but I hope there will be other works undertaken in the neighborhood”, says Mohammed Annour, owner of the “Troc de Turin”. Patrick Allemand, vice-president of the regional council, observes that “*this neighborhood is often left abandoned*”. However, the mayor has declared his intention to make it “*a postcard of Nice*”. Playgrounds, a water point, vegetable gardens, pedestrian paths… these are the upcoming projects.
In any case, Christian Estrosi is ambitious: “*I want this place to become a place where people want to live*”. Because in the neighborhood, there are still other things to be done: creation of public services, a post office, renovation of housing… But, according to Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, deputy for urban policy, “*this is a neighborhood that, unfortunately, has faced major problems in the past, where strong improvements still need to be made, contributing to the improvement of the living environment and residents’ environment. The inauguration of this parking lot is one such illustration. We must continue to go further*”. Certainly, the projects are grand, but let’s wait for the result.
