The agents in charge of parking meter inspections have ended their strike, 18 days after it began. Since this morning, fines are back in effect.
The employees of Moovia Transdev have returned to work for financial reasons. They have not achieved satisfaction, however.
Their indefinite strike started on Thursday, November 4th. They can no longer afford to continue, as their salary is affected.
The employees were asking management to recruit staff and increase their salaries. They are reportedly paid the minimum wage, according to one of them.
Management argues that they have not met the employees’ expectations because of bonuses. However, these bonuses are variable and depend on the number of cars checked daily, according to an employee. Thus, 651 daily inspections would be required to earn the maximum bonus. The staff would prefer a salary increase.
The city council is also implicated. The employees would like it to take their side. The deputy mayor for traffic and parking, Gaรซl Nofri, says it is not possible. The City of Nice cannot intervene in a wage negotiation.
At the end of the year, it will be determined if the contract between Moovia and Nice is renewed.
