In a co-production with the Leipzig Opera and the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Nice Opera will present Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal” on January 15 and 17, 2010, a unique work within the repertoire of the German composer. The musical direction will be handled by maestro Stefan Anton Reck, and the staging—and set design—by Roland Aeschlimann, revisited by Dagmar Pischel.
American tenor Gary Lehman, accustomed to great Wagnerian characters (Tannhauser, Siegfried), will perform the title role of Parsifal while Russian mezzo-soprano Elena Zhidkova will embody the role of the Grail messenger, Kundry.
The Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, the Choirs of the Nice Opera, the Children’s Choirs of the Nice Opera, and the Nice Mediterranean Opera Ballet Company will be involved in both performances.
To better understand the importance of this complex work, two introductory conferences, organized by the Wagner Circle, will take place at the Grand Foyer of the Nice Opera on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 3:00 PM, and on Saturday, March 13, 2010, also at 3:00 PM.
