The Southern Region announced this evening the immediate closure of Building 4 of the Masséna High School in Nice. This measure is part of the comprehensive rehabilitation program undertaken at the institution. The initial diagnoses call for further investigations. The regional authority has therefore decided to suspend access to this part of the site until the end of the week. The decision is the result of an agreement between the Region, the Nice education board, and the school’s administration. For now, classes are expected to proceed as usual.

The closure of Building 4 necessitates a quick reorganization. The administrative and teaching teams are adapting schedules and teaching locations. The goal is to maintain the continuity of classes despite the constraint. Boarding students affected by this closure will be relocated starting this evening. Twenty students usually reside in this part of the high school. A temporary solution is being offered to them for the duration of the additional studies.

This situation is part of a larger project. The Masséna High School is undergoing a renovation program spanning several years. The Southern Region is overseeing this project. The renovations concern the entire site, with specific attention to modernizing the buildings, meeting standards, and improving reception conditions. The diagnostics carried out in recent days have highlighted the need to deepen certain analyses. The closure of Building 4 allows these studies to be conducted in a safe environment.

The technical teams commissioned by the Region are continuing their investigations. The results will guide the continuation of the project. The authority is ensuring regular follow-up with the education board and the school’s administration. Information will be communicated as the studies progress.

Regional Funding Structured Since 2015

The Masséna High School has benefited from significant investment since 2015. The Southern Region announces a total of 96 million euros committed over this period. This amount is divided into three segments.

  • 17 million euros are allocated to maintenance and routine upkeep.
  • 9 million euros are dedicated to rehabilitating the boarding facilities.
  • 70 million euros finance the complete rehabilitation of the high school, excluding the boarding facilities.

This program aims to adapt the institution to the current needs of students and educational teams. The comprehensive renovation is expected to allow better use of spaces, improved energy efficiency, and modernized infrastructure. The temporary closure of Building 4 is part of this logic of gradual site security and transformation.

The Southern Region highlights that the work continues according to a schedule adjusted based on the diagnostics. The academic services and the school’s administration remain committed to limiting disruptions. Students and their families will be informed of developments related to this phase of additional studies.
