The electoral campaign calls for strict “marking” between individuals. Indeed, the statement from Christian Estrosi is thought-provoking, especially coming from a former minister who should be aware of the existence and functioning of international treaties.
Creating confusion with unfounded proposals and, in any case, without potential follow-up, is certainly not the best way to address such an important and sensitive issue as immigration.
On the other hand, if Patrick Allemand thinks he can become the mayor of Nice by criticizing Christian Estrosi on the immigration issue… It might not be the best option either.
There is still a month left until the first round; would it be too much to ask the two rivals to return to the fundamentals?

By calling for a referendum on immigration following the Swiss model, the mayor of Nice has once again crossed all republican limits in his frantic race for National Front votes.
“We wonder if the government is going to ask the French to integrate, to learn to speak African languages, Mandarin, Arabic languages. Is it us who should adapt?” he declared on France 2. These statements, which echo and even amplify the traditional paranoia of the far-right, are dangerous as they create a climate of tension based on lies and hatred of foreigners.
If there is still a pilot in the UMP airplane, they must affirm the republican vocation of this great opposition party and not only condemn but also sanction these statements by initiating disciplinary action, as they did for the mayor of Roquebrune-sur-Argens for his remarks on the Roma.
