Patrick Mottard: The Indian Summer of Students!

Latest News

For the past few days, there has been good news for studentsโ€ฆ

mottard-24.jpg Thus, the government announced on Monday the generalization of the student rental guarantee (CLE). This measure applies to all those who do not have a guarantor. In case of unpaid rent, the landlord will be compensated from a guarantee fund*.

Furthermore, the young person will be exempt from paying a deposit, which, beyond its prohibitive cost, was a source of disputes. This is a measure that will significantly improve the situation of many underprivileged students.

The second piece of good news, welcomed by the unions (Fage and Unef), is the redistribution of funds dedicated to merit scholarships into the common pool and redistributed based on social criteria “much more effective in addressing social determinism,” as stated by Minister Fioraso. The numbers and facts are stubborn: how can one not support this rule of democratizing the university?

The third piece of good news concerns the students of the Alpes-Maritimes, as the General Council has decided to maintain the merit scholarship system in its current form. Even if the decision is not free from political ulterior motives, it is ultimately very favorable for our young people who will have both the benefits generated by the government decision and those from the General Council.

That said, the President will have to report to the departmental assembly, really explaining how he will finance the measure. I admit I am eagerly awaiting this moment.
