Undoubtedly the most significant demonstration in Nice against the pension reform took place this Tuesday with overcast and mild weather. This is partly because CFDT joined the fray with a strong contingent wearing orange vests. Alongside UNSA, CFTC, and CGC, the so-called reformist unions are now at the forefront, even if they were at the end of the parade. This goes to show that the Prime Minister’s proposals have not convinced people, including those who believe that a point-based retirement is a reform for social justice.
Another notable aspect of the day, similar to my friends Vรฉronique and Manu, high school teachers, is the significant mobilization of educators. It is true that the compensations announced for these professions by Edouard Philippe have remained very vague.
If I were to give a general feeling, it’s that the movement, far from losing steam, has gained intensity, and the hope for a resolution of the crisis, category by category, as was done for the police (rightly so, incidentally), is less likely today, given that distrust has become widespread and globalized.
