This Thursday, numerous pharmacies across France will be on strike for various reasons. Pharmacists want to raise awareness about their difficulties, particularly the shortage of medications and the drop in their income.
The demands of the pharmacists are multiple. They are notably calling for an increase in their fees from the Health Insurance and are firmly opposed to the online sale of medications, which they believe could “dismantle the pharmacy network”.
The situation of pharmacies is especially concerning in rural areas, where many pharmacies are closing due to medical desertification, difficulties in recruiting staff, and retirements that are not being replaced. These closures exacerbate inequalities in access to healthcare in these regions.
