Pharmacists’ strike: “unprecedented!”

Latest News

More than 90% of pharmacies are closed this Tuesday in the provinces and the Paris region. In the Alpes-Maritimes, 16 of them are on call.

According to pharmacists’ unions, this is “unprecedented” in 25 years. The reason? The reform of regulated professions. Pharmacies are particularly opposing the government’s plan to allow the sale of certain medications in supermarkets.

Doctors, dentists, pharmacists, ophthalmologists, as well as notaries and lawyers, are also called to keep their doors closed by the National Union of Liberal Professions (UNAPL). Everyone has their own reasons… Doctors are protesting against the health bill, expected in October, which is set to place private medical practice under the control of the administration. In addition to the “threat” to their medication sales monopoly, pharmacists oppose the possible opening of the capital of Liberal Practice Companies (SEL) and the arrival of non-pharmacist shareholders in their businesses.

The movement is likely to be widely supported, but for now, no extension of the strike is announced for the coming days.
