Pink Parade: Nice Embraces Diversity

Latest News

This Saturday, August 5th, the Pink Parade took place. Although the event couldn’t take place last year, many participants came to this edition, celebrated on the Promenade du Paillon to the sound of DJs.

Speeches, animations… and the famous march, from Place Massena to the beginning of the Coulรฉe Verte. A whole program to bring together the inhabitants of Nice and beyond, under the banner of tolerance. The march aims to be a demonstration, linking yesterday’s struggles to those still to be fought today.

In other cities around the world, the event is called “Gay Pride,” but in Nice, it has the unique distinction of being named differently. According to Jean-Marie Pottier, secretary-general of the AGLAE* association, it’s a way to stand out and also to remember the past. “The word ‘Pink’ is there to remind us of the ‘pink triangle,’ a mark gay deportees had to wear to be recognized during World War II.” The secretary-general laments the limited perimeter for the event but is already grateful to the city of Nice for making the Coulรฉe Verte available for the day.

For Erwan Le Hรด, president of the Cรดte d’Azur LGBT Center, the event helps support the center and the community through the sale of t-shirts and various products. “This kind of event allows us to ensure and fund various actions throughout the year for people who are victims of discrimination.” At the center, they welcome these individuals and regularly host discussions and activities.

At 7 p.m., the march concluded with the Pink Drink, a large aperitif with music, in front of the MAMAC museum.
