Plastic banned (starting from the 2019 school year) in schools in Nice

Latest News

During his visit to the construction site of the future central kitchen, which is expected to be completed by the next school year and will be capable of providing 30,000 meals per day, the Mayor of Nice announced:

“I have decided to ban […] plastic entirely from the production process to the reheating in school restaurants.”

Stainless steel containers for cooking and cellulose trays for packaging, distribution, and reheating will be used.

This announcement anticipates the amended provisions of the “agriculture and food” bill, currently under discussion in parliament, which aims to implement a similar measure by 2025.

The city, which also notes that “all tableware” currently used “is already made of glass or stainless steel,” also announced a similar measure for picnics, with all disposable cutlery to be made from wood or cardboard starting from the first half of 2019.

Recently, the municipal councilors from the EE-LV group publicly requested an ordinance to ban plastic straws in establishments in Nice.
