This Wednesday, May 25, the first quarter-final match of the Betclic Elite took place in the Gaston Médecin Hall in Monaco, pitting AS Monaco (2nd place in the regular season standings) against SIG Strasbourg (7th place in the regular season standings).
Despite a very contested first quarter (24-24), AS Monaco fell (87-100) to a Strasbourg team in great form, led by French player Yannis Morin (17 points – 88.9% shooting success) and the American-Bosnian point guard John Roberson (20 points – 100% shooting success).
This defeat for Monaco can be attributed in part to a low three-point shot success rate (25%) as well as a large number of turnovers (16). Nonetheless, we can highlight the good performances of American players Alpha Diallo (22 points – 60% success rate on two-point shots) and Paris Lee (17 points – 66.7% success rate on two-point shots) who led AS Monaco throughout the game despite the absence of Serbian player Danilo Andjusic and American star point guard Mike James.
With this impressive away victory, SIG Strasbourg starts these Betclic Elite quarter-finals in the best way possible, taking the lead in the series (1-0) against one of the strongest contenders for the 2022 French Championship title. The next match will take place in Strasbourg, at the Rhénus, on May 28. Should SIG Strasbourg win again, they would qualify for the Betclic Elite semi-finals and face the winner of the Boulogne-Levallois/Pau-Lacq-Orthez series. In the event of a Monaco victory, it would lead to a final showdown in Monaco to decide which of the two teams will qualify for the Betclic Elite semi-finals.
