The Alphonse Daudet Middle School in Nice will live in the era of new technologies. On March 19, 2010, ร‰ric Ciotti, president of the General Council, will launch podcasting at the institution, a digital tool better known as “podcasting”. A revolutionary tool, each teacher creates a podcast that they then upload to a site. In class, students will use these podcasts, knowing that each workstation is equipped with a headset. The advantage? Students can transfer their teachers’ lessons to their portable players and then listen to them again at home.

What origin?

“Podcasting” is a portmanteau: it comes from the contraction of the iPod, Apple’s famous portable player, and “broadcasting”, which means diffusion in English. It finds its origin in the advent of web 2.0. It allows exporting audio files to your MP3 player. For example, you can listen to an already broadcast program on your player. However, this technological feat tends to disappear with the advent of next-generation mobile phones that offer the possibility to listen to a live radio broadcast.
Nonetheless, 56 middle schools have chosen to use it, including the Alphonse Daudet institution in Nice. It must indeed be a valuable asset…
