Police in schools, for CGT-Educ’Action it’s still a no.

The day after the visit to Nice by the Minister of National Education, during which he authorized the experiment for the presence of a police officer inside school facilities proposed by the Mayor of Nice, while Christian Estrosi expresses his satisfaction, “To understand the role, the missions, and the interest that the presence of a municipal police officer inside schools might raise, I suggested to @jmblanquer to try it in the coming weeks and months,” there are those who express their displeasure with this measure, considered useless and purely demagogic.

Everyone has their own opinionโ€ฆ

Minister Blanquer has therefore decided to authorize, “on an experimental and unarmed basis,” the Mayor of Nice to place police officers inside schoolsโ€ฆ The estimated cost of this measure: โ‚ฌ4,400,000 per year, or the equivalent of 8,800 coach trips to allow the children of our city to participate in sports or cultural activities.

At a time when the city has frozen school educational funding, when the state has abolished Administrative Assistance to Schools, when the City no longer covers school medicine (nurses), when ATSEM (specialized nursery school agents) are not replaced in case of absence, when the State does not give the Public School the means to fulfill its assigned missions, this demagogic measure aimed at reinforcing an illusory security policy makes no sense.

What we need in schools are not police officers but administrative secretaries, ATSEMs, school nursesโ€ฆ What is needed for prevention is not a police officer in schools, but a budget for social services that the mayor’s former close friend and former president of the Departmental Council, Mr. Ciotti, has largely helped to reduce.

The Cgt-Educ’Action condemns this decision and will do everything possible to combat it.
