A ceremony presided over by the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes took place yesterday afternoon
at the Auvare Barracks, in honor of the police officers who died for France.
The afternoon then began with a medal ceremony for some police officers, such as Guy Benoit, for instance, who was honored by the Prefect for his heroic act during the collapse of the Carrefour Lingostière roof on February 5th, which saved the life of a woman trapped under the rubble.
After the Marseillaise was played by the musicians of the National Police, a message from the Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, was read at the opening of the commemoration.
This speech notably recalled and emphasized the importance and courage of acts of resistance by mentioning Jean Moulin, at the dawn of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings on the French beaches on Saturday.
In turn, Eric Ciotti, Christian Estrosi, and Adolphe Colrat laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the Police Memorial, before observing a moment of remembrance.
