Police station, paid street parking… Key takeaways from the latest city council meeting

Latest News

Last Friday, the municipal council— the last of the year— was held at the city hall of Nice. Here are the main points to remember.

Security
The members of the selection jury for the overall performance contract of the future police headquarters, which will bring together 1200 national police officers and 800 municipal police officers, have been appointed.
Thus, Christian Estrosi, and two of his deputies— Anne Ramos and Philippe Pradal— along with the advisor from the Retrouver Nice group, Thierry Venem, and the one from the ecological group, Fabrice Decoupigny, will be the five members of this jury.

Culture
Regarding the revival of the Victorine studios, the municipal council voted to provide an update on the project’s progress and to approve the next steps toward the realization of the studios’ renewal.

It was also unanimously voted to approve the establishment of practical training sessions organized by the Cours Florent at the Victorine studios.

General Affairs
Concerning paid on-street parking, the area was expanded in the Tzarewitch sector— with additional streets incorporated— and in the Saint-Isidore sector, following the favorable opinion of the neighborhoods.

A modified pricing system for resident subscriptions is planned for the Saint-Isidore sector.

For the creation of a cancer center at the Villa Paradiso, the decommissioning and reclassification of the site were adopted during the municipal council meeting. This will also allow for the establishment of an easement to ensure access for emergency services.

The Gare du Sud
The municipal council concluded with an open question regarding the measures the city hall will implement to revive the Gare du Sud, to which a council member responded that Urban Renaissance— which currently operates the Gare du Sud— had been summoned on November 29 by Christian Estrosi.

The mayor then asked what means the company would put in place to revitalize the gallery. As the responses were not satisfactory, he gave them an ultimatum until January 15, 2022, to propose concrete actions to revitalize the Gare du Sud very quickly.

Therefore, it will be necessary to wait until January 15, when a bailiff will come to verify all breaches of the contract signed between the city hall and Urban Renaissance, to know what will happen to the Gare du Sud. If the current gallery operator fails to revitalize it, another investor will then be selected.
