Postal Workers Strike in the Alpes-Maritimes: What You Need to Know

Latest News

This Monday, the CGT FATP 06 filed a one-week strike notice. As the distribution of documents for the European elections approaches, they are protesting against an overload of work. The goal? To obtain additional compensation.

As the European elections draw near, La Poste is responsible for distributing envelopes to all mailboxes in the department. This task leads to an increase in the workload, making it difficult to maintain the pace. In response, the CGT FATP 06 has filed a strike notice that is expected to extend until Saturday.

What are their demands?

Rémi Demouveaux, secretary general of the CGT, stated that this distribution represents two days of intensive work, not counting packages and registered mail. It is a considerable amount of additional work. To address this situation, the union is requesting “a flat-rate compensation of 300 euros for each and everyone during this period.” Additionally, the CGT FATP 06 is demanding “to fill vacant positions and make precarious jobs permanent.”

La Poste downplays the movement

Regarding La Poste, it reportedly received between 60 and 80 million euros from the State to offset this workload. According to Rémi Demouveaux: “La Poste pockets everything.” According to La Poste, only 0.4% of postal workers were on strike. A figure that allows them to minimize the impact of the movement. However, the strike notice is in effect until Saturday. This Monday afternoon, some postal workers have already gathered to consider extending the social movement from tomorrow.
