Saving lives: that is the ambition of the association 20,000 Lives, created in Nice five years ago by Dr. Claude Mariottini, a cardiologist, and Master Philippe Soussi, sponsored by actor Gรฉrard Rinaldi, who passed away in 2012.
Thanks to the music group “The Low Budget Men” which gives concerts to raise funds, the association finances the purchase of defibrillators to equip our territory.
Each year in France, 60,000 people lose their lives due to cardiac arrest. The only chance of survival for a cardiac arrest victim is to receive defibrillation within minutes of their episode.
This Monday, January 21st, the association 20,000 Lives will officially present Christian Estrosi with six defibrillators: one will be installed at the Francs Archers stadium, and the other five will be distributed among municipal buildings in the city of Nice.
Let us remember that a defibrillator is a device that can save the life of someone experiencing cardiac arrest. Its principle is simple: it delivers an electric shock to the heart to restore a regular rhythm until medical help arrives.
As of today in Nice, 116 defibrillators are installed in various municipal buildings throughout the city (Main Town Hall, Municipal Police on Gabriel Faurรฉ Street, Phoenix Parkโฆ), within numerous sports facilities, and in establishments managed by private companies under a public service delegation from the City (such as the Acropolis or the Palais Nikaรฏa).
