Today, the Mediterranean Institute of Risk, Environment, and Sustainable Development (IMREDD) presented its autonomous electric shuttle. Tested in the Carros area, this innovation is part of a project aimed at facilitating transport for everyone.
It represents a real technological advancement for the Alpes-Maritimes. The arrival of the autonomous electric shuttle is near. Humanity is constantly in search of innovations, with the goal being to make life easier for everyone. The Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis is already well equipped with public transport, thanks to the tramway as well as buses. The first tests will be conducted in the Carros-Le Broc industrial zone in 2022. This area has no less than 11,000 employees. Naturally, even though it is autonomous, a driver is present for safety.
Developing Territory
Speaking of safety, sensors are installed on the shuttle to anticipate road hazards, explains Pierre-Jean Barre, director of IMREDD. “Employee mobility is very important” according to Marc Raiola, president of Côte-d’Azur Industries Plaine Du Var (CAIPDV). The goal is general mobility, not just the car itself. This shuttle will promote industrial development in the territory. At least, that’s the hope of those who contributed to its design. “Being anchored close to our territory is important to us. Not just shining internationally, but contributing to the visibility of our close territory”, says Noël Dimarcq, vice-president of Research and Innovation.
Electricity, an Environmental Asset
Being 100% electric, this shuttle is also part of an ecological approach. “Social-environmental challenges are at the heart of our exchanges with communities”, says Noël Dimarcq. Currently, the issue of ecology is increasingly significant. So, seeing an electric shuttle capable of transporting up to six people is crucial. “Projects like this will help us achieve the European goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030”, asserts the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.
