This Friday, April 21 at 4 PM – Place Saint-François – Old Nice
Since the end of last year, the Nice Côte d’Azur archaeology service has been conducting a preventive archaeological excavation of the Franciscans’ church building and carrying out surveys. Following this research, a number of unprecedented discoveries have been made, allowing a better understanding of the building’s history and the evolution of the neighborhood since the 13th century.
The historic buildings of Place Saint-François form an exceptional monumental ensemble due to their antiquity and their importance in the political and social history of Nice. They are listed, along with the entire square, in the Old Nice Safeguard and Enhancement Plan (PSMV).
This excavation campaign is a necessary prelude to the rehabilitation of these unique buildings in order to create a vast cultural and exhibition space related to Nice’s history and tradition.
