Often labeled a “minor candidate,” François Asselineau is in his first presidential campaign, and while he is not very well-known yet, François Asselineau is not entirely new to politics.
François Asselineau has made exiting the European Union his main platform: Frexit, echoing the British Brexit, goes hand in hand in his program with the return to the franc and leaving NATO. His party, the Popular Republican Union, was founded in 2007, while the European Union was celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.
In Nice, nearly 650 supporters attended his rally, and polls currently credit him with 1.5% of voting intentions.
The candidate has notably proposed, on societal issues such as immigration or nuclear energy, to resort to citizen referendums.
