Prevention of Risky Behaviors: “KE’FA” Winter School

Latest News

This Saturday, February 19, 2011, from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Club de Loisirs et d’Action Jeunesse located at 26 Scudéri Street in Nice.

On this occasion, the role and missions of the “Kéfa?” Youth Health Bus will be presented; an opportunity for it to carry out cross-border action in the field of prevention and promotion of youth health.

Organized within the framework of the Alcotra European Cooperation Program, this event will welcome no less than 130 young French, Italian, and Swiss individuals engaged in a common “peer education” project. This peer education program involves motivated young people, who, after training, pass on information to other young people on topics that concern them: alcohol, drugs, sexuality…

The program for these days, which take place from February 16 to 20, includes intercultural meetings, experience and knowledge transfer, debates, performances, etc. “Kéfa?” is a model of peer education.

Born from the reflections of the Young General Counselors (CGJ) during their 2004 mandate, “Kéfa?” is a bus created by young people for young people. It is funded by the General Council and staffed by one prevention officer, one psychologist, and one sociologist coordinator from the French Mutuality.

A true mobile prevention tool for addictive behaviors, the “Kéfa?” Youth Health Bus travels throughout the department to establish dialogue with middle school students about the risks associated with the use of legal or illegal drugs and to develop their critical thinking and autonomy towards pressures. “Kéfa?” also involves working with teachers around a prevention program to ensure the sustainability of interventions with middle school students (following the recommendations of the National Education), raising awareness among parents and families, through conferences, about risk behaviors.

A bus adorned with the colors of the “Kéfa?” campaign

In 2010, the CGJ carried out an awareness and prevention operation on addictions: alcohol, drugs, and the internet. The originality of this truly expressive and innovative communication led the General Council to dress its Youth Health Bus in the colors of this campaign.

A brochure to counter common myths: alcohol makes you too strong, too beautiful!!!

This initiative was enriched with a brochure printed in 50,000 copies. It provides sound advice to avoid the pitfalls of alcohol, drugs, but also cyber addictions. Rich with testimonials, “true or false” questionnaires, it aims to be uncompromising, highlighting the risks associated with drugs (sexual abuse, alcoholic comas, accidents) and disproving false beliefs.

In 2009, the Health Info Bus reached no fewer than 4,300 8th and 9th-grade students in 31 middle schools, with satisfaction rates of 8.3 out of 10 from students and 9 out of 10 from parents.

Alcohol, drugs, and the internet are the new dangers for young people.

Some alarming figures illustrate this phenomenon:
6 out of 10 young people aged 17 (60%) report having been drunk at least once in their life,
51% in the last twelve months
15 years is the average age of the first drunkenness
11% of 15-24-year-olds in Europe claim to practice binge drinking (consumption of 5 or more drinks on a single occasion)*
