“Clameur”, the reference observatory for rents in France, revealed that the PACA region remained the most expensive after รŽle-de-France. In 2010, rents rose by an average of 2.1%. Meanwhile, in the Alpes-Maritimes, they increased by 13.9%, setting a record. You should expect to pay over 4,000 euros per square meter. In Strasbourg, the estimated price decreases significantly: 2,518 euros per square meter.

Who’s to blame?

Coming to the PACA region implies paying the price of the “sun.” But not only that… The shortage of social housing remains the main cause. This is the law of the market and the phenomenon of scarcity, with demand putting pressure on an overly scarce rental supply.

What solution?

The construction of social housing could lead to a decrease in rents. This approach is part of the law related to solidarity and urban housing, commonly known as the SRU law. Every municipality belonging to an urban community of more than 50,000 inhabitants must produce a minimum of 20% social housing. But is this law really being respected?
