Davide Longo was born in Carmagnola in 1971.
A basketball player, musician, and screenwriter, with his first novel, “A Morning in Irgalem,” he won the Grinzane Cavour Prize for best debut.
He is the author of the collection “Tales of the Mountain” for Einaudi.
He has been acclaimed by critics as one of the best Italian authors of recent years.
The “Vertical Man” (which derives from the Spanish Hombre Vertical) is an expression used to indicate a steadfast man.
Leonardo, the protagonist, is not at all a vertical man. This novel is based on courage, and Leonardo is mild, compliant, and in this world
where the rules of coexistence break down, he, being a reclusive intellectual who has decided to isolate himself, seems destined to be swept
away. Yet, this book is also a personal exploration of courage, which has many facets and lurks even in passive attitudes.”
