This Friday, the Nice players unfortunately lost once again. Against a much more competitive Montauban team, our Nice team could not withstand the opponent’s advances.
It started well. With a yellow card in the 7th minute for Montauban player Viiga, the Nice team had an advantage during the first ten minutes. And they made the most of it. Indeed, ten minutes later, a clear pass from Gimbert and an acceleration by Erasmus broke through the opposing defense. The South African used his speed to outpace the Montauban players and finished his run in the try zone. Gimbert added two more points from the right of the posts (7-0).
In the 34th minute, the Nice team committed a foul in front of the posts, giving Montauban their first 3 points (7-3). As the siren, or rather the eagle’s cry, sounded, Montauban decided to play a ball from their own half of the field. The USM players were penalized in the play on the ground, and Gimbert attempted to give his team a ten-point lead before halftime. From the left of the posts, about forty meters away, the Nice scrum-half missed the target. At the end of an animated first half marked by numerous inaccuracies on both sides, Nice led 7 to 3 against Montauban.
A Complicated Second Half
Montauban started the second half with a long possession sequence. Bosviel and his group, however, failed to make advances and even conceded a penalty that allowed Nice to invade the opposing camp. In the 54th minute, Mouchous scored a beautiful try for USM. To the right of the posts, Bosviel converted the try (7-10).
It took just 3 minutes for Montauban to score their second try. The Montauban players were in a strong phase. Vici dominated a high kick from his fly-half in front of the 22 meters. The play then shifted back to Bosviel, who alerted the opposite wing, where Vallée concluded this beautiful action. In the corner, on the left, Bosviel missed the target (7-15). Montauban triumphed on Nice’s ground with a score of 7 to 15, and our team from the Côte d’Azur recorded their 14th consecutive defeat.
