Wednesday, May 22, 2024, marked the presentation of the program for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of France and Nice.
This Wednesday, the Deputy Mayor in charge of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nice, Jean-Marc Giaume, presented the commemoration program for the anniversary of the liberation of Nice at Pierre Merle School.
Each year, commemorations are organized to mark the anniversary of the liberation of France and Nice. The city of Nice is committed to preserving and commemorating this memory. For the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nice, numerous tributes and cultural and sporting events will be organized until August 28, 2024.
This year, for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nice, a book has been published by the City of Nice entitled “Nice in Turmoil, World War II 1939-1945”. This book will be available to schools in Nice and to the general public, from June 18 to August 28 during the ceremonies.
The city of Nice wishes to organize several days of commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nice. The municipality also intends to organize festive events to pay tribute to the resistance fighters. You can enjoy the Liberation Ball on Saturday, August 24 at the open-air theater. The screening of the film “La Bataille du rail” on the forecourt of the Sud station on Monday, August 26. Or the intergenerational and solidarity boule contest at Clos du Château on Wednesday, August 14.

Program of the commemorations of key moments that marked the history of Nice:
- Sunday, May 26: 80th anniversary of the bombings of Nice:
- Tribute at the war memorials of Riquier, Saint-Roch, and Pasteur starting at 9 am.
- Concert at the municipal station and in the heart of Nice’s roads at Place Saint-Roch starting from 11:30 am.
- Monday, May 27: National Day of the Resistance:
- Ceremony at Pierre Merle School in homage to Pierre Merle in the presence of the Municipal Guard. Find the inauguration of the exhibition organized by the students on the Nice resistance fighter starting at 9 am.
- Inauguration of the new sign for the Museum of the Resistance in the presence of students from Bois de Boulogne School at 2 pm.
- Ceremony for the 80th anniversary of the creation of the National Council of the Resistance at Jean Moulin School. Then in front of the plaque in tribute to Jean Moulin at 22 Rue de France at 3:30 pm.
- Ceremony at the Jean Moulin monument on Place de Gaulle at 6:30 pm.
- Tuesday, June 11: Tribute by students from Masséna High School at Saint-Julien du Verdon where 11 resistance fighters were shot.
- Sunday, July 7: Tribute to resistance fighters Séraphin Torrin and Ange Grassi at the corner of Avenue Jean Médecin.
- Monday, August 15: Tribute to those executed at Ariane at the Ariane execution site.
- Tuesday, August 27: Ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the initiation of operations. Then join the torchlight vigil at the war memorial.
- Wednesday, August 28: 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nice. Attend the inauguration of the unique exhibition of 76 period photos at Place Garibaldi. Then participate in the special evening at the war memorial.
