Promenade des Anglais: requalification rhymes with securing

Latest News

The Promenade is looking somewhat renewed with a focus on safety. “The tragedy of July 14 could have been avoided, at least in the circumstances in which it occurred, if the ongoing works had already been completed,” said Christian Estrosi bitterly during the presentation.

Traffic fluidity and the site’s enhancement will take into account the security aspect during the requalification project, which is underway from Quai des ร‰tats-Unis to Gambetta (before the end of the year) and will continue in 2017 up to Lenval.

The language becomes technical, and the support from Denis Carlo, the project engineer, proves invaluable.

There are three key points: the ability to close off selected areas; preventing vehicle intrusions; implementing access control.

The measures planned to meet these constraints include anti-intrusion bollards, a longitudinal protection of the south sidewalk and the central island, retractable bollards for access control, and alert systems.

In short, the precautionary principle is well applied, taking into account international experiences (Canada, Australia), and it is the condition for the Promenade des Anglais to once again become the natural stage for events.

This approach will gradually be applied to other sensitive areas of the city. An inventory is underway, and a complete plan will be presented in the coming weeks.
