The final stage of the EDF Aqua Challenge, the crossing of Nice, will take place on September 21, 2025. Several events will allow swimmers of all levels to test themselves in the Mediterranean waters.
On the weekend of September 20 and 21, 2025, the Bay of Angels will host the 9th edition of the Prom’Swim. This event, now well-established in the Nice sports calendar, will offer a weekend dedicated to open water swimming. The event will also constitute the final stage of the EDF Aqua Challenge 2025, organized by the French Swimming Federation with the support of EDF.
For two days, amateurs and experienced swimmers will meet on the Promenade des Anglais. It’s an opportunity to dive into an iconic setting, between Ponchettes beach and Carras beach, with several distances suited to all swimmer profiles.
A two-part program
On Saturday, September 20, starting at 2 PM, a village will be set up on the Promenade des Anglais, at the Ponchettes beach level. Participants can collect their race cap until 7 PM. This central location will also gather volunteers, athletes, and the curious. At 7 PM, the closing of the village will mark the end of this first day.
On Sunday, September 21, the events will take place. At dawn, swimmers participating in the 10 km will gather for the safety briefing at 7:30 AM, before a scheduled start at 8 AM from Ponchettes beach. The event, considered the most demanding, will follow a full course in the bay. The first arrivals are expected around 10 AM, and the time limit set to 11:30 AM will allow everyone to cross the finish line.
The 5 km will offer another challenge. The start will be from Carras beach at 9 AM. A bus service will ensure the transfer of personal belongings to the arrival village, on Ponchettes beach. The first swimmers are expected from 10 AM, and the race will conclude at 11:15 AM.
The intermediate events of 1 and 2 km will also start early. After a briefing at 7:30 AM, participants will dive in at 8:15 AM. The first arrivals of the 1 km should reach the beach by 8:30 AM, followed by those of the 2 km from 8:45 AM. The time limit set to 9:45 AM will mark the end of these distances accessible to a wide audience.
Finally, the youngest will also have their moment. The 500 m children’s event will start at 9:30 AM from the village, after a briefing at 9:15 AM. The finish is scheduled for 10 AM.
An event open to all
Prom’Swim Nice stands out for its accessibility. The five courses offered allow swimmers to choose a distance suited to their experience and fitness level. Registrations are open to licensed and non-licensed participants until tomorrow evening here.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the event is part of an outdoor sports approach. Participants move in a unique maritime environment, at the foot of the city of Nice. The organization emphasizes safety with mandatory briefings, water supervision, and precise schedule monitoring.
The variety of distances also helps bring together different generations. Children can discover the discipline with the 500 m, while the most experienced tackle the 10 km. The intermediate formats of 1, 2, and 5 km offer a natural progression for those who wish to take on a challenge without aiming for extreme endurance.
A sports festival on the Promenade des Anglais
Beyond the races, Prom’Swim Nice aims to remain a friendly moment. The award ceremonies will begin at 9:30 AM for the 1 and 2 km distances, then at 10:30 AM for all others. The podiums will reward performances as well as the participants’ commitment.
Prom’Swim Nice is not limited to a local crossing. It marks the final stage of the EDF Aqua Challenge, a series of events organized by the French Swimming Federation in partnership with EDF. This series promotes open water swimming practice and contributes to its spread throughout the territory.
The Nice race occupies a special place thanks to its environment. Swimming in the Bay of Angels offers both a sporting and symbolic experience. The city becomes a meeting point for enthusiasts, in a setting open to the public.
With its various distances and its two-day organization, Prom’Swim Nice 2025 confirms its mission: to offer a sporting event that is accessible, rooted in its territory, and focused on the joy of swimming in the open sea.
