Anti-lockdown protesters gathered this Friday afternoon in Nice, at the courthouse square. Florian Philippot, the former vice-president of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, now leader of the Les Patriotes party, had called for this anti-lockdown gathering.
A very large number did not wear masks, “that piece of fabric which exasperates them.” And on the podium, Florian Philippot notably criticized Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, who, according to him, “does not like the people of Nice.” This event comes shortly after Prime Minister Jean Castex announced weekend lockdowns in the Alpes-Maritimes.
This somewhat unusual demonstration prompted a reaction from the Young People with Macron: “Political debate is totally legitimate, but calls for civil disobedience and endangering othersโ lives are unacceptable.”
Indeed, one might wonder why those present, who were not wearing masks, were not sanctioned.
