PS Primaries: Still Nothing on the Horizon…

Latest News

This was supposed to happen last week, and it will be before next March 13, sources from Solférino Street indicate. For now, anyone who can make a final prediction about the possible primaries that will elect the candidate of the united left in Nice is very clever indeed.

In both camps, there is hope, and each has their own arguments about the upcoming choice that had been promised just a few days earlier. A good sign for some, a subject of concern for others, it will only be a few more hours to know the final verdict of the national authorities of the Socialist Party.

If YES: The candidates should soon join Patrick Allemand at the starting line, and if General Councilor Marc Concas could certainly be included, the decisions of other local leaders such as Jean-Christophe Picard (PRG), Mari-Luz Nicaise (EELV), or Robert Injey (Left Front), who have not excluded their presence in the first round of the next municipal election… or in the primaries, must be seen.

If NO: Patrick Allemand will be supported in his position as a candidate but may find himself weakened in his role as leader. Because, while the situation within the Azurean Socialist Party may be easier, the same cannot be said with the various currents of the left in Nice opposed to a single and imposed candidacy.

Almost a game of “who loses, loses” for a local left that could certainly use a resurgence if it plans to reclaim the Nice stronghold, historically promised to right-wing hegemony. Furthermore, this year, the effect of Marine might well punish both the current Socialist government management and the recent missteps of an UMP that will have to outperform its previous choice of President for its candidate. The risk of fragmentation on the left could play into the hands of the National Front candidate, whether named Jacques Peyrat or Gaël Nofri.

Thus, it’s on Wednesday the 13th that the much-anticipated response has been promised, whether from one side or the other, and, like Le Havre and many other major cities: Nice is at the starting blocks!
