Since November 2012, Jean Icart, General Councilor, in charge of the LGV and Intermodality mission, has been mobilized with national leaders to make the voice of the Alpes Maritimes heard in major transportation projects.
The latest discussions, two weeks ago, with transport advisors to the President of the Republic, Mr. Vieu, the Prime Minister, Mr. Piechaczyk, and the Minister of Transport, Messrs. Matabon and Kovarik, resulted in the agreement on the creation of a new line and a Côte d’Azur RER, between Mandelieu and Ventimiglia.
A victory for the azure coast, attention from senior government members, and justice rendered to the city of Nice.
While awaiting a high-speed line with a direct Paris-Nice route, this new line dedicated to long-distance travel in the Alpes Maritimes will be able to free up the coastal railway line, thereby increasing the number of TER trains, leading to a real shift from car to train transportation.
