The launch of the “Seniors Ecol’eau” project took place yesterday afternoon at the Saint-Barthélémy Center, in the presence of Joelle Martinaux, Deputy Mayor of Nice for Social Affairs, and Jean-Michel Galy, Deputy for Senior Citizenship.
Upon their arrival at the Saint-Barthélémy Center, Christian Estrosi’s two deputies addressed the audience gathered in the hall. Jean-Michel Galy was the first to take the microphone. In his speech, the Deputy for Senior Citizenship emphasized the vital importance of water on a daily basis, as well as the waste and inequalities that persist worldwide between different regions, citing the example of the Jordan River. He explained that water consumption had not been calculated for far too long.
Joelle Martinaux then spoke to thank the volunteers present for their actions within the center. At the end of her speech, she stated that the Seniors hold “a significant place in the City of Nice. The city must be adapted.” Also Vice-President of the CCAS of Nice, she reminded that the CCAS notably includes 4 nursing homes, 3 accommodation centers, equivalent to 500 housing units for people who find themselves in precarious or isolated situations.
The meeting concluded with the distribution of “Ecology box Eau”, small kits that will help reduce water consumption. The water savings with this educational tool are estimated to be nearly 7,050 m3.
