Ramadan 2020: the start of fasting in France set for this Friday

Latest News

The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) announced on Thursday, April 23, from the Great Mosque of Paris, that the month of Ramadan 1441/2020 begins today, Friday, April 24.

It was without much surprise that this date was chosen by the institution, which has been presided over by Mohammed Moussaoui since January 2020, shortly after the announcement from Saudi Arabia. The latter also set the first day of the month of Ramadan for Friday, April 24.

The announcement was nevertheless made in a very particular atmosphere, dictated by the health crisis associated with the Covid-19 epidemic. Only the rector of the Great Mosque of Paris, Chems-Eddine Hafiz, was present. The other representatives of the CFCM, including Mohammed Moussaoui, participated via videoconference.

This decision aligns with the one made, among others, by the Theological Muslim Council of France (CTMF) which had announced the start date of the blessed month for Friday, April 24.

The Nice Premium team would like to wish everyone an excellent month of Ramadan in advance!
