The quality of housing in France, especially in EHPAD (Accommodation Establishment for Dependent Elderly People), is improving.
There are still many modest establishments but overall very few are outdated. Among the most outdated are mainly USLD (Long-Term Care Units) and PUV (Small Living Units).
The cost of accommodation in retirement homes has soared in recent years: ranging from 35 €/day (for a public structure of 35 or 40 years) to 220 €/day (for the highest-rated private ones).
A rebuilt establishment to standards generates an additional cost between 7 and 15 €/day. The inexpensive establishments are over-occupied, while these new establishments with too high rates are under-occupied.
Disparities between Departments
With an average score of 7.6, the Corrèze department leads the ranking, while the Ardennes department is at the bottom of the ranking with an average of 5.9.
