It is with surprise (but electoral campaigns are very useful for putting ideas back into play… because of the electorate!), that the Left Front and particularly its lead candidate Robert Injey questioned a myth of their political culture (democratic centralism) to become the theorists of “participatory democracy”.
This concept, which in practice means the broad and “real” consultation of citizens on any issue directly or indirectly affecting them, is the opposite โ according to the same Robert Injey โ of what is practiced today in Nice “where there is only the will of one man, Christian Estrosi”.
To avoid any authoritarian drift, one must listen to the citizens before a decision is made. “Yes, I know it,” says again the lead candidate for the Nice municipal elections, “we must return to fundamentals. We must have the ambition to make things move and be driven by a single ambition: to respond to people’s daily needs.”
The first case of application concerns the renovation of the area of the former Ray stadium. While the mayor of Nice has stated he is awaiting a report with proposals from experts, the Left Front has reversed the trend and took the initiative to consult the citizens.
The results of this consultation (Of course, nothing scientific, but it’s always interesting and useful to know what those concerned think) are clear: No real estate speculation or new shopping center.
However, residents are demanding sports facilities and/or a leisure center and parking lots to ease congestion in the area. But, who will finance all that, and this without any return in terms of profitability?
“The cost of the underground tramway could be the financial lever for these proposals,” supports the Left Front candidate.
Returning to the participatory democracy so dear to Robert Injey, he liked the method so much that he is going to conduct a new consultation to construct the program after asking citizens to express their priorities.
Nothing new under the sun, converts have always been the most convinced!
See you at the end of January for the grand solemn event with the agenda: Program and list of candidates.
