In the presence of Eric Ciotti, president of the Finance Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, and several regional officials, Raymond Depardon presented a new exhibition titled “Alpes-Maritimes” at the Lympia space at the port of Nice. The photographer is showcasing his second exhibition in the city this year.

The artist is presenting a selection of 39 photos, some of which were taken between 2002 and 2003 in the Alpes-Maritimes at the request of the department, which wanted to immortalize certain emblematic places in the region.

Realism and softness are the words Raymond Depardon repeatedly uses when discussing his work in the Alpes-Maritimes. “I focused on the habitat and made it as gentle as possible.” Barns, religious buildings, a village hidden in the mist, the artist seizes every opportunity to immortalize the most ordinary moments of these natural and rustic places.

Urbanization also has its place. “My goal is to play with this contrast between the beauty of the coast and the beauty of the interior.” It is under modern prints, made with American papers, that Depardon inaugurated his work. Spread over two levels, the exhibition is open to the public until September 16 and remains accessible to everyone.
