Tick Tock Tick Tockโฆ In less than 30 days, the European Masters Games (EMG) Nice 2015 will be officially declared open, and the good news is already at the starting line!
The threshold of 5,000 registrations has just been surpassed. To date, 5,246 athletes from 76 different nationalities have already secured a spot to participate in this major competition. A new participation record in the history of the European Masters Games!
The nearby Italians are well ahead with more than 600 participants, followed closely by the Russians with a delegation of over 500 athletes, then Lithuania with its 200 competitors. Nearly 80% of the participants will be foreigners who will come to Nice for about ten days, not only for the competition aspect, of course, but also to enjoy the capital of the French Riviera and its region. It’s a great opportunity for the local economy to benefit from the returns generated by this type of major event.
Extended registration deadline!
Registrations remain open until September 20, 2015: due to the high number of ongoing requests, the organizing committee, in agreement with the IMGA, decided to extend the registration deadline, mainly to allow Chinese and Russian nationals to finalize their applications.
Indeed, a partnership has recently been concluded with the company Imagetrans (the one that organized the visit of the 8,000 Chinese from the Tiens company) and actions have been taken to facilitate the participation of Chinese competitors interested in the EMG Nice 2015.
Special rate for the people of Nice!
It is still possible for the people of Nice to join the great adventure of the EMG and experience a major international sports competition from the inside.
A preferential rate of โฌ100 is offered to them (instead of โฌ160). Just like their foreign teammates, athletes over 35 living in Nice will, at this rate, be able to participate in 3 of the 27 sports (and up to 5 events in total) that the games include and will benefit from the same advantages, namely, the “welcome bag” worth โฌ80, free museum admissions, and numerous discountsโฆ perhaps even awaiting the chance to step onto one of the podium’s three steps to receive a bronze, silver, or gold medal.
It is already a first success for the organizing committeeโentirely composed of agents from the Sports Directorate, led by its dynamic director, Laurent Ciubiniโbut far from being satisfied, they want, as the saying goes, to go “farther, higher, and stronger”: “The numerical objective has been reached, now it is up to us to make sure these games are a total success for everyone.”
That’s what we wish them, as organizing games comprising 27 sports competitions (in collaboration with local clubs managing the sports competitions), managing a village located at Place Massรฉna, designing opening and closing ceremonies as well as implementing a series of conferences on sport/health, are far from insignificant tasks.
The appointment is therefore already set for 6 p.m., Thursday 10 October, for the opening of these European Masters Games Nice 2015, which will turn the capital of the French Riviera into a vast playground where all competitions will be free and open to the public.
