Renaud Muselier’s persistence in changing the name of the Region remains a mystery that only the good Dr. Freud could explain. Since he’s no longer around, we’ll remain unsatisfied…
That PACA wasn’t an attractive acronym and didn’t phonetically inspire reverie can be understood. That Christian Estrosi, freshly elected, declared his aversion and imposed a return to the official name (Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur) can certainly be accepted.
But bringing out as if it were the original idea of the century, this misleading name (every region, every country, has its south), raises the question of who came up with this idea for which Renaud Muselier was criticized by the opposition for formal irregularity.
Nonetheless, the President of the Region is an experienced elected official who shouldn’t slip on a banana peel, especially not in such a case.
In a plenary assembly, the National Rally Group had submitted forty-five amendments to remove the “Région Sud” mentions from regional deliberations.
The determination of the National Rally elected representatives paid off: after a particularly stormy beginning of the session, the President of the Region, Renaud Muselier, committed that the “Région Sud” brand would no longer be present in official deliberations, but only in communication operations.
Given the final outcome, one wonders why the Regional President made such a fuss over this “false” name change.
Let’s be clear: “Région Sud” of what?
