Regional Elections 2015: Elections Are Not a Circus

Latest News

The elections are not a circus but the strongest act of democracy. The electoral campaign will be long, three months; let’s hope it won’t be crazy?

Politicians talk a lot. The problem is not so much that they talk a lot, but more that they speak to say nothing… or sometimes to spout nonsense.

Their intention is to (virtually) buy voters’ votes with a slew of promises that, from experience, we know will never see the light of day. Besides, only the naive believe that politicians’ promises are meant to be kept.

The point of all the speeches is primarily to make people believe that they all care about the citizens’ well-being: all talk, no action, as it used to be said.

We have heard so many fiery declarations, each candidate coming up with new proposals as if they wielded a magic wand, when in fact it’s more like a smokescreen to fill the void of ideas.

Poor citizens being taken for a ride once again. Could it be worse this time than all the other times?

On the contrary, now is the time to question everything, to return to the source of democracy before it’s too late. We must have the courage to question ourselves and find ways to reintroduce a new relationship between politicians and citizens.

Otherwise, with generalized disillusionment, fewer and fewer people will go to vote.

So, ultimately, what moral legitimacy does the elected person have?
