The campaign for the regional elections is starting to get serious with the presentation of the top candidates’ lists for the different contenders.
Yesterday afternoon, the outgoing LR president of the Paca region officially launched his campaign, flanked by those who will support him at the departmental level:
– Bouches-du-Rhône: Renaud Muselier, top candidate for Paca
– Alpes-Maritimes: Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice
– Vaucluse: Bénédicte Martin, outgoing LR regional councillor
– Var: François De Canson, LR mayor of La Londe-les-Maures
– Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: David Gehant, LR mayor of Forcalquier
– Hautes-Alpes: Chantal Eyméoud, centrist mayor of Embrun
Among his 135 running mates are several representatives of the presidential majority.
*”For the past two weeks, the debate about the future of our region has been hijacked by the commentators. It’s time to put an end to this situation,”* declared Renaud Muselier. *”I am rallying today as I have always said I would,”* condemning *”the current hysteria”* as some in his political family are calling for the party to withdraw its support.
After Eric Ciotti announced he would not vote for the list of Renaud Muselier and requested that LR withdraw its support, it was David Lisnard’s turn on Friday to step back from the campaign, denouncing a *”political maneuver whose moral downfall will lead to probable electoral defeats.”*
Renaud Muselier’s response to his critics was sharp and uncompromising: *”Those who are compromising themselves today by calling not to vote for me are irresponsible. They effectively support the Rassemblement National and challenge the red line set at the foundation of the RPR, the UMP, and the Republicans.”*
And if, in this settling of scores among “barons,” the defeat of the outgoing president was the objective of some in view of future “cross-party” alliances?
