This Friday morning, during a speech at the PACA regional council session in Marseille, the last of the term, Jean-Marie Le Pen called for the support of the Front National electorate for his granddaughter Marion.
The FN candidate feared the presence of another far-right list in Paca. If such a list were to be led by Jacques Bompard, it would not have the endorsement of the party’s founder.
In return, some former regional councilors close to Jean-Marie Le Pen will be included on the FN’s departmental lists, as the list leader had hinted in recent days.
This marks the end of a saga that has captivated and engaged the political debate of the election campaign since the summer.
This family reconciliation is a positive development for Marion Le Pen, who will no longer have competitors to her right.
It was less well received by Christian Estrosi who would have been the main beneficiary in the first round, as he would have gained some percentage points from the Front National votes.
And in an election that is expected to be close, everything is worth taking.
