During a ceremony held via video conference, the president of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region, Renaud Muselier, made sure to extend his best wishes to the press.
“A year ago, my wishes were more joyful and pleasant.” Renaud Muselier doesn’t hide it. The year 2020 is unfortunately marked by the emergence of Covid-19. This pandemic has caused the death of more than 70,000 people in France. As he extended his wishes to the press, the president of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region reflected on this very special year. “It was an incomparable year. We faced the greatest pandemic of the contemporary era. Our fellow citizens faced three major crises: a health crisis, an economic crisis, and a social crisis,” he explains. A few hours after being vaccinated against Covid-19 in Marseille, the regional president also delivered a message of hope for the year 2021: “I wish us a return to normal life. We will fight to achieve it. With the region, we are outlining this prospect for this year.”
Renaud Muselier headed for a new term?
After discussing various themes and projects carried out in 2020, the regional president also answered several questions from the press. The year 2021 is notably marked by new elections. Indeed, the regional elections are expected to take place next June. For now, Renaud Muselier has not officially announced his candidacy. “I believe I could announce my candidacy only if I have lived up to the work accomplished during this crisis. If I believe I have kept the ship steady in the storm, it means I am capable of serving a second term,” he explains. The current regional president, with a smile, notes a noteworthy absence of opponents: “I notice that I have no designated candidate facing me. If some want to take my place, I don’t hear them explaining much about what needs to be done.” For now, Renaud Muselier is focused on one objective: “succeeding in my vaccination campaign.”
