The “Spring of Researchers,” organized in the Alpes-Maritimes from May 18 to 29, in Cannes and Sophia Antipolis, is a completely free operation aimed at introducing the public to the vitality of research in the PACA region by presenting recent discoveries or those linked to current events.
INRIA (National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation), in collaboration with https://www.linux-azur.org, offers a workshop titled “Java Scool: become a computer scientist in less than two hours” (2 sessions: 10 AM & 2 PM).

This workshop presents key computer science concepts through a “real” introduction to programming, using small “gamelets”.
The goal? To discover concretely how these “mechanical intelligences” are programmed so that one can master rather than endure digital technologies.
Why? Because by concretely discovering how they work, from being a simple passive user, we can become real actors: adapting, modeling, even creating the digital tools that surround us.
How? By discussing the foundations of computer science and practicing them for real.
This workshop is intended for people who already know how to use a computer and its usual software, for school students (Friday, May 21).
Luc Deneire, Researcher at the I3S Laboratory (Sophia Antipolis Laboratory of Computer Science, Signals and Systems – UMR CNRS/UNS) offers at 3 PM, an interactive conference titled “WiFi and mobile phones, towards greener radio technology?”
Following significant topics such as sustainable development, energy savings, and health concerns, a new research theme has emerged: “green radio”. Under this somewhat catchy term are several topics:
– the search for wireless networks where energy minimization is actively pursued, either in sensor networks to ensure the longest possible lifespan or in classical cellular networks (GSM-3G) to minimize the energy consumption of base stations;
– the search for networks where emitted power is minimized through cooperation strategies and the use of smart antennas.
By focusing on these two aspects, we will present the main challenges related to “green radio” from a scientific perspective, without ignoring societal aspects, including health.
