Residents of Nice have demonstrated and blocked a construction site.

Residents of Nice Nord are mobilizing against the construction of a building on an unoccupied plot of land.

In the Gairaut district, located in the northern part of the Azurean capital, a group of twenty locals blocked the construction site of a building. The reason? For them, there is not enough space to accommodate 17 new apartments and 34 underground garages.
These residents fear that this could cause landslides, and that in case of strong winds or storms, part of the neighborhood could be affected.

However, the Nice city council released a statement in the evening explaining that the construction site complies with “all guarantees of buildability and safety” and that “a soil study has been included in the file”. The municipality thus concluded that “Nothing justifies any concern about this building permit, and consequently, there is no reason to halt the construction site.”

The demonstrators have already been received and heard by the city council, and a second meeting is scheduled for December 1st, where they will again have the opportunity to discuss with developers and municipal officials.
