In recent days, Nice Première has experienced unusually high traffic, and we should be thrilled by this phenomenal audience. But tonight, in front of my screen, which would make any webmaster shudder when looking at their statistics, I am disappointed and a bit bitter.
Following the articles about the establishment of a Mosque in Nice and the poll offered alongside the article, we have UNFORTUNATELY deleted over a hundred messages that were racist, insulting, xenophobic, degrading… and worse. Certainly, our forum is absolutely not intended for such diatribes, and I will not give the pleasure of repeating certain outbursts that force us to be extra vigilant in order not to risk polluting our… your pages.
We once considered requiring all our users who wanted to leave a message to use a pseudonym and password to post, but this strays too far from the space we wish to offer everyone. It is unanimously decided that we continue to allow free reactions to each of our articles, with regular moderation.
Far too many sites and forums have allowed far too much in the last few hours. Links to unauthorized pages, copying articles (sometimes even without crediting the author), not to mention advice on poll voting or the types of messages we systematically delete.
Come on, a little respect doesn’t hurt anybody, even at “Nissa la pas bela,” and this famous respect is often trampled in the reactions of netizens that we won’t keep if they wish to use Nice Première in that manner in the future. We wanted to create here a space for discussion among friends, buddies, colleagues, comrades, teammates, parents of all kinds, of all colors, and of all religions.
Of course, I also have a religious education to my credit, which took me from the Cathédrale Sainte Réparate to the Eglise du Gésu through Sainte Rita. Today, my faith has taken a different path than that practiced and taught in my family, and the late Abbot Navarre and Bishop Louis Sankalé are men who make me believe that religion has the merit of existing. I am unfamiliar with Islam or even the Quran, but the words I have had the misfortune to read on my own forum are the very example of the prevailing disrespect that grows daily, both in the city and the countryside.
Should there be a mosque in Nice?
Even within the team of Nice Première, opinions are divided, and ideas form and dissolve with the rhythm of research and topics concerning this file.
“Yes to a Mosque but with exemplary transparency.”
“No, I don’t think it’s a good idea, but it is certain that the number of practitioners and the risks that basement Islam might present are reasons why it might happen one day.”
“Yes, but having it on the Plaine du Var would be ideal. Parking spaces, roadway access, public transportation…”
Agree or disagree, but the guiding principle of Nice Première will remain based on respect, and any contribution that goes beyond the bounds of propriety will not be disseminated. It is not with joy, much less for pleasure (it necessitates very regular monitoring), that we implement this moderation necessary to make our site a place that resembles us and in which we take pleasure welcoming you daily.
Thank you all for following us and for considering this notion of respect when you prepare to share your writings with us.
