Rudy SALLES, President of the Les Centristes des Alpes-Maritimes Federation
This aftershock from the 2017 earthquake confirms that the restructuring of our political ecosystem is not complete. Worse, for the historical parties, the results recorded constitute a political cataclysm for a PS with 6.19% and an LR with 8.48%.
On the right, despite a larger number of registrations and a participation rate increase of +7.69% between 2014 and 2019, the LR party (formerly UMP) loses more than 1,500,000 voters and drops from 20 to 8 seats.
Thus, the gamble of a hardline right, closed in on itself, is a heavy failure.
The historical defeat of the Republicans clearly raises the question of the responsibility of the party leaders. This political stance no longer matches the concerns and expectations of the French people. Furthermore, internal quarrels and the desire to exclude those who dared to open the debate on the party’s official line added to the confusion and rout.
They wanted a shrinking skin: they got it.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, notably in Nice, this defeat is all the more significant because the President of “the leading LR federation in France,” Eric CIOTTI, portrayed himself as the leader of a hard right, forgetting the foundations of Gaullist populism.
Without considering a larger number of registered voters and greater participation, the President of the LR nomination committee achieved the feat of losing 12,116 votes.
On the FN/RN side, their score in 2019 (compared to 2014) remains constant or slightly declining when considering the +5.84% participation increase between the two elections (2014: 41.95%, 27,963 votes; 2019: 47.79%, 28,014 votes).
Thus, with a stable FN score, where did those 12,116 (right-wing) votes lost by Eric CIOTTI in Nice go?
Focusing energy on devaluing Nice and the constructive action led by Christian ESTROSI caused some right-wing and center-right voters to impose this debacle.
Today, we must win them back through a solid, more moderate alliance that is ambitious to innovate and develop a better life for our territories.
Philippe Vardon, Vice-president of the RN group on the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regional Council, Head of the Nice Basin
The RN largely in the lead, far ahead of LR, in the Nice metropolis: a personal failure for Estrosi and Ciotti.
In the European elections, the National Rally list came first in Nice and the Nice metropolis, with 28.18% in Nice and an average of 38.92% in the metropolis.
This puts the RN 16 points ahead of the LR list in Nice and even 24 points ahead in the entire Nice metropolis!
The LR list experiences a resounding failure, with even 11.70% in Nice, despite the combined support of Eric Ciotti and Christian Estrosi.
In Nice and the Nice metropolis, and more broadly in the department, it is a personal, clear failure, both for Eric Ciotti and Christian Estrosi.

First, thank you all for voting for the climate! The path of transition opens to us.
A quarter empty glass is the worrying part of Nationalist Retreat. A three-quarter full glass is the victory of ecology. The Greens are at full strength!
The future is the Ecology of Solutions to be built with the citizen movement for climate. The revival of participation in the European elections is invigorating after the civic mobilization, the only sustainable outcome of democracy. We have a great responsibility because young people have chosen ecology. The resurgence of participation is from them, the Climate Generation. We must not disappoint them. Let’s invite them to build the future together.
The Green MEPs are the only ones able to build majorities in the European Parliament, even with unfavorable governance. Three recent examples:
– Electric fishing banned by Yannick Jadot against the will of the Commission protecting industrial fishing.
– The investigation committee on the ‘dieselgate’ imposed by Karima Delli on the Council of Europe and the commission against all states defending their national manufacturers.
– Protection of whistleblowers led by Eva Joly, opposing the “trade secret” promoted by the Government and the President himself, to defend the interests of the powerful to the detriment of the small.
We might also mention just in 2019: lobby transparency, publication of Monsanto’s confidential reports, copyright imposed on GAFAM to defend cultural exception…
Now 70 in Parliament, European Greens are essential for any coalition. Overtures to win them over have already begun!
The Alpes Maritimes are not exempt from the national result: Europe-Ecology-The-Greens is ahead of The Republicans. What seemed impossible. As Mark Twain said: “They did not know it was impossible, so they did it.” The future is now ecological: “utopia is not the unrealizable but the unrealized.”
Moreover, locally, we are being approached from all sides… We will not be fooled. We want actions, not greenwashing. “Let’s Act Together” remains the watchword for ecologists.
The Nationalist Retreat has not won. On the contrary, it regresses compared to 2014. It will send fewer MEPs to Strasbourg (23 against 24), but it remains the receptacle of protest, to which we must oppose and propose an ecological and social transition: it’s the Ecology of Solutions, a coalition ecology.
Contrary to appearances, Macron has a wide road ahead for 2022, if we let him impose his duel and bipolar nature: he is the new right.
The alternative, both locally and nationally, must therefore be civic, ecological, and social: unity & diversity. It’s fitting, as it’s Europe’s motto!
Enis Sliti (LREM department head)
In the Alpes-Maritimes, La République En Marche! achieved a score of 21.59% in the European elections on May 26, 2019. The only progressive force present, facing the fall of the Republicans, La République En Marche! positions itself as the adversary and bulwark against the rise of nationalists.
This score is almost equivalent in Nice, where the Renaissance list scores 21.83% with 21,699 votes. In Antibes and Cannes, the Renaissance list does better with 24.50% and 25.04% of the votes respectively.
In several municipalities of the department, La République En Marche! asserts itself as the leading political force ahead of the National Rally. In Biot, the Renaissance list comes first with 28.89% of the votes, in Mougins with 26.86%, Valbonne 26.58%, and in Vence with 24.55%.
In the Southern region, the Renaissance list obtained the most votes in the Alpes-Maritimes department: 21.59% against 19.94% for the Alpes-de Haute-Provence, 20.91% for the Hautes-Alpes, 19.69% for the Bouches-du-Rhône, 19.24% for the Vaucluse, and 20.89 for the Var.
